World's Most Expensive Iphone 5 Cost $15.3 Million

World's Most Expensive Iphone 5

Have $15.3 million lying around?

Then you could become the owner of the world’s most expensive iPhone 5.

Created by United Kingdom-based designer Stuart Hughes, the £10 million (about $15.3 million) iPhone is coated in solid gold and features both black and white diamonds.

Hughes, who is known for crafting incredibly pricey luxury tech products, created the design at the behest of a Chinese businessman. According to CNN, Hughes said the businessman owned a rare 26-carat black diamond that had been passed down from one generation of his family to the next and wanted to include it in the iPhone design.

On his website, Hughes details the features of the black diamond iPhone 5, which includes an inlay of 600 white diamonds, a solid gold Apple logo surrounded by 53 white diamonds, 135 grams of 24-carat gold and sapphire glass for the screen. As for the black diamond, the stone replaced the iPhone's home button. Overall, the design took nine weeks to create.

Previously, Hughes created an iPhone 4S Elite Gold phone priced at £6 million (about $9.18 million) that once held the title of world's most expensive phone. However, with his latest creation, Hughes has broken the record yet again.

What do you think of the $15.3 million iPhone 5? Is it worth it?

Africa’s Richest Man, Aliko Dangote To Build $8bn Oil Refinery In Nigeria

 Dangote
Alhaji Aliko Dangote
Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, plans to invest up to $8bn to build a Nigerian oil refinery with a capacity of around 400,000 barrels a day by late 2016, the tycoon told Reuters on Tuesday.

This will almost double Nigeria’s current refining capacity.

“This will really help not only Nigeria but sub-Saharan Africa. There has not been a new refinery for a long time in sub-Saharan Africa,” Dangote said in a telephone interview.

The country currently has the capacity to produce some 445,000 barrels per day among four refineries, but they operate well below that owing to decades of mismanagement and corruption in Africa’s leading energy producer.
Nigeria, the continent’s second-biggest economy, relies on subsidised imports for 80 per cent of its fuel needs.

A surge in domestic capacity would be welcomed by investors in Nigeria, but it would cut into profits made by European refiners and oil traders who would lose part of that lucrative market.

Dangote said the country’s ability to import fuel would soon be challenged.

“In five years, when our population is over 200 million, we won’t have the infrastructure to receive the amount of fuel we use. It has to be done,” he said.

Past efforts to build refineries have often been delayed or cancelled, but analysts have said Dangote should be able to build a profitable Nigerian refinery, owing to his past successes in industry and his strong government connections.

The Dangote Group’s cement manufacturing, basic food processing and other industries have helped lift his personal fortune to $16.1bn from $2.1bn in 2010, according to the latest Forbes estimate.

How I Prophesied The US Boston Marathon Explosions Since January [Video] – TB Joshua

 TB Joshua

Founder of the The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), TB Joshua has claimed he prophesied about the Boston bombings since January this year.

According to Emmanuel TV report, in a repeated broadcast on January 19, 2013, Prophet Joshua told his congregation to pray and fast for America because he had seen flames and bombings in parts of that nation.
He further stated that he had seen “massacre in a gathering of people in America” and warned that such gatherings should be avoided or be “well-secured”.
Speaking at the first service, he said: “On Monday, I want you to fast and pray
for that nation, America. What I’m seeing, if I’m permitted I will say it but just pray for them. I’m seeing flame. What is the cause of this flame? As time goes on I will talk about that.”

At the second service, he further emphasized: “I see something is roaming about, wandering in the city (America)…” he told the congregation.

“Their homeland security should be tight, tight, tight,” he added.

AMAA 2013: Film world converges on Yenagoa

After the submission of entries for this year’s edition of the African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, closed on January 30, there followed a flurry of activities leading to the announcement of nominations on March 15 in Lilongwe, Malawi. The 9th edition of AMAA with the theme: ‘Africa One’, got a record 671 films in competition with Francophone countries leading with entries.
The prestigious awards, regarded as Africa’s Oscars, held a superlative gala night in Malawi with the country’s President Joyce Banda was chief host, literarily bringing the country to a standstill. The icing on the cake for Malawi, little known for film, is that Flora Suya got nominated for the AMAA 2013 Prize for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Last Fishing Boat, which walked away with four other nominations including the prize for Best Film.
It was a big celebration for the country and it continued with a concert by music sensation PSquare the next day at the Golf Club in Lilongwe with many attesting to the show pulling one of the most unprecedented
crowds for such gatherings in the country.
The April 20 date for the awards looked like a long way ahead when announced at the gala but it is finally here heralded by a book and craft fair beginning today in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital. Already, Nigerian literary icons have gathered in Yenagoa for the international book and craft fair that is part of the activities for the 2013 AMAA to be hosted by actress Dakore Egbuson, comedian Ayo Makun and British/Ghanaian television presenter and actress, Ama K. Abebrese.
The fair, which will have many readings and technical sessions according to Fair Director, Mr. Onyeka Nwelue, will have in attendance, accomplished playwright, Professor Femi Osofisan; NLNG Prize for Literature winner, Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo and former Minister of Federal Capital, Mallam Nasir El-rufai, who will read from his latest book, The Accidental Public Servant. Holding till April 19, it will also have popular Indian writer and supermodel, Shobhaa De and Portuguese actor, Jose Fildago attending.
When the award night takes place on Saturday, the category everyone will watch keenly will be the one for Best Film, which has two Nigerian films in contention, Last Flight To Abuja and Confusion Na Wa. The former is based on a near miss in which a pilot steers a smoke-filled plane to safety, while the latter is a social comedy drama that traces the lives of a disparate group of individuals as their paths cross over the course of one day.
For being thrilling and adding up to the two nominations in this coveted category alone, a Nigerian film may well be sure of a win. But as those who know about such things would indicate, they do not necessarily go that way all the time. But there is no doubt that any one of the two films stands a chance. That is not to indicate that the remaining five are pushovers. The South African film Elelwani tells the captivating love story of Elelwani and her boyfriend who plan to spend the rest of their lives together until forces beyond their control step in. In the last couple of years, South Africa has been Nigeria’s biggest rival at the AMAA; it is looking to go that way this year as well particularly when one considers that Elelwani also shows up in the Best Director as well as Best Actress in a Leading Role categories, among others.
There are countries such as Kenya, Cameroon, Malawi and Mozambique all relatively new to the AMAA but packing a punch with Nairobi Half Life, Ninah’s Dowry, Last Fishing Boat and Virgin Margarida, respectively, all of them films that cannot be ignored, not only for quality of production, but also depth of the story.
Then there is Ghana’s Yvonne Okoro (The Contract) and Nigeria’s Rita Dominic (The Meeting) nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for films pundits have continued to speak about since the nominations were announced. The other contenders in this category include: Florence Masebe (Elelwani); Mariam Ouedraogo (Moi Zaphira); Mbutung Seikeh (Ninah’s Diary) and Flora Suya (Last Fishing Boat). It is unlikely that any one of the two Nigerians actresses may not clinch the prize, but if that were to happen, it is a prize for any one of the other actresses.
However, one prize many a Nigerian film enthusiast would like to see stay in the country is for Justus Esiri’s nomination in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his performance in Assasins’ Practice. And this is not just that it will be awarded posthumously, it is also because the late veteran actor, only buried last Friday, was one of the best Nigeria ever produced. The other contenders in this category are: OC Ukeje (Alan Poza); Bimbo Manuel (Hereos and Zereos); Lindani Nkosi (Zama Zama); Hlomla Dandala (The Contract); Femi Jacobs (The Meeting) and Amurin Wumnembom (Ninah’s Dowry). Should either Esiri, Manuel, Jacobs or Ukeje (who has worked hard since coming onto the Nigerian movie scene by winning the now rested Amstel Malta Box Office, AMBO, reality show contest), win, it will be a big one for Nigeria.
From the look of things, it will be a very interesting awards night come Saturday as film people in Africa and beyond stand up to be counted. In all, Elelwani got 11 nominations making it the film to beat followed by Nairobi Half Life with nine. The Twin Sword, Virgin Magarida, Blood and Henna, Ninah’s Dowry, The Contract and The Meeting got six nominations each. Last Fishing Boat, Last Flight To Abuja and Okoro The Prince each got five nominations.

Finally, Mourinho accepts to be Chelsea manager

Jose Mourinho

The wait is over. After months of speculation, Jose Mourinho has agreed to return to the Chelsea hot-seat next season according to the Daily Star.
And the current Real Madrid manager has already drawn up a list of transfer targets to help the Blues return to the top of the Premier League – headlined by strikers Hulk and Radamel Falcao.
According to the reports, Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season on a salary that more than matches his current £12 million-a-year package at Madrid. But the 50-year-old realises Chelsea need some extra firepower to compete against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and emerging powerhouse Tottenham.
Mourinho is a big admirer of Hulk while Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao has long been rumoured with a
move to London.
The news may just reinforce Romelu Lukaku’s desire to seek another loan move away from the club next season, with the Mirror reporting the teenager, currently plying his trade with West Brom, has asked Blues officials to secure him another stint in the Premier League. And with European football on his mind, a move to the Capital One champions, Swansea, is on the cards.

Report: Kim Kardashian to Sing on Kanye West's New Album

Finally, some news about Kim Kardashian that's not related to her controversial maternity style. According to the folks at Media Take Out, it's been confirmed that the pregnant reality starlet has a new gig on her hands: Singing on boyfriend and baby daddy Kanye West's upcoming album.

Apparently, Kardashian will be warbling on the "intro or an interlude," so we'll probably only get a brief preview of her vocal chops-but in case you forgot, this isn't her first time behind the mic. In 2011, she released "Jam (Turn It Up)," an abysmal track that was produced by the Dream and on Kim's E! reality show "Kourtney and Kim Take New York." Oddly enough, Mr. West actually joined her in the studio that day to give her some advice-way before they became a couple.

While you might be miffed that a respected artist like Kanye would want to incorporate his non-singer
girlfriend into his craft, it's important to remember that his lyrical work is highly referential-and she's been addressed numerous times on past tracks.

He also weaves celebrity cameos throughout his work, like Chris Rock-who delivered a monologue of sorts on "The Blame Game" (a song from Kanye's 2010 opus "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy") that's believed to be a raunchy callout of West's ex-girlfriend Amber Rose and her relationship with fellow hip hop artist Wiz Khalifa.

No further details about the song are known, but in our heads it'll be an ode to high-fashion labels with Kardashian cooing things like "Saint Laurent! Givenchy!" in the background.

US Bombing Update: Pressure cooker bombs suspected in Boston Marathon Bomb blast

This image from a Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security joint bulletin issued to law enforcement and obtained by The Associated Press, shows the remains of a pressure cooker that the FBI says was part of one of the bombs that exploded during the Boston Marathon. The FBI says it has evidence that indicates one of the bombs was contained in a pressure cooker with nails and ball bearings, and it was hidden in a backpack. (AP Photo/FBI)

BOSTON (AP) — Federal agents zeroed in Tuesday on how the Boston Marathon bombing was carried out — with kitchen pressure cookers packed with explosives, nails and other lethal shrapnel — but said they still didn't know who did it and why.
An intelligence bulletin issued to law enforcement and released late Tuesday included a picture of a mangled pressure cooker and a torn black bag the FBI said were part of a bomb.
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies repeatedly pleaded for members of the public to come forward with photos, videos or anything suspicious they might have seen or heard.
"The range of suspects and motives remains wide open," Richard DesLauriers, FBI agent in charge in Boston, said at a news conference. He vowed to "go to the ends of the Earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime."
President Barack Obama branded the attack an act of terrorism but said officials don't know "whether it was
planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual."
Scores of victims remained in hospitals, many with grievous injuries, a day after the twin explosions near the marathon's finish line killed three people, wounded more than 170 and reawakened fears of terrorism. A 9-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy were among 17 victims listed in critical condition.
Heightening jitters in Washington, where security already had been tightened after the bombing, a letter addressed to a senator and poisoned with ricin or a similarly toxic substance was intercepted at a mail facility outside the capital, lawmakers said.
There was no immediate indication the episode was related to the Boston attack. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the letter was sent to Republican Sen. Roger Wicker, of Mississippi.
Officials found that the bombs in Boston consisted of explosives put in ordinary 1.6-gallon pressure cookers, one with shards of metal and ball bearings, the other with nails, according to a person close to the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe was still going on. The bombs were stuffed into black duffel bags and left on the ground, the person said.
DesLauriers confirmed that investigators had found pieces of black nylon from a bag or backpack and fragments of BBs and nails, possibly contained in a pressure cooker. He said the items were sent to the FBI laboratory at Quantico, Va., for analysis.
The FBI said it is looking at what Boston television station WHDH said are photos sent by a viewer that show the scene right before and after the bombs went off. The photo shows something next to a mailbox that appears to be a bag, but it's unclear what the significance is.
"We're taking a look at hundreds of photos, and that's one of them," FBI spokesman Jason Pack said.
Investigators said they haven't determined what was used to set off the explosives.
Pressure cooker explosives have been used in international terrorism and have been recommended for lone-wolf operatives by al-Qaida's branch in Yemen.
But information on how to make the bombs is readily found online, and U.S. officials said Americans should not rush to judgment in linking the attack to overseas terrorists.
DesLauriers said there had been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
He urged people to come forward with anything suspicious, such as hearing someone express an interest in explosives or a desire to attack the marathon, seeing someone carrying a dark heavy bag at the race or hearing mysterious explosions recently.
"Someone knows who did this," the FBI agent said.
The bombs exploded 10 or more seconds apart, tearing off victims' limbs and spattering streets with blood, instantly turning the festive race into a hellish scene of confusion, horror and heroics.
The blasts killed 8-year-old Martin Richard, of Boston and 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, of Medford. The Shenyang Evening News, a state-run Chinese newspaper, identified the third victim as Lu Lingzi. She was a graduate student at Boston University.
Doctors who treated the wounded corroborated reports that the bombs were packed with shrapnel intended to cause mayhem.
"We've removed BBs, and we've removed nails from kids. One of the sickest things for me was just to see nails sticking out of a little girl's body," said Dr. David Mooney, director of the trauma center at Boston Children's Hospital.
At Massachusetts General Hospital, all four amputations performed there were above the knee, with no hope of saving more of the legs, said Dr. George Velmahos, chief of trauma surgery.
"It wasn't a hard decision to make," he said. "We just completed the ugly job that the bomb did."
Obama plans to visit Boston on Thursday to attend an interfaith service in honor of the victims. He has traveled four times to cities reeling from mass violence, most recently in December after the schoolhouse shooting in Newtown, Conn.
In the wake of the attack, security was stepped up around the White House and across the country. Police massed at federal buildings and transit centers in the nation's capital, critical response teams deployed in New York City and security officers with bomb-sniffing dogs spread through Chicago's Union Station.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said that the stepped-up security was a precaution and that there was no evidence the bombings were part of a wider plot.
Pressure cooker explosives have been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a July 2010 intelligence report by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. One of the three devices used in the May 2010 Times Square attempted bombing was a pressure cooker, the report said.
"Placed carefully, such devices provide little or no indication of an impending attack," the report said.
The Pakistani Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the 2010 attempt in Times Square, has denied any part in the Boston Marathon attack.
Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen gave a detailed description of how to make a bomb using a pressure cooker in a 2010 issue of Inspire, its English-language online publication aimed at would-be terrorists acting alone.
In a chapter titled "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom," it says "the pressurized cooker is the most effective method" for making a simple bomb, and it provides directions.
The tightly sealed pot makes easier-to-obtain but weaker explosives faster and stronger, amplifying the blast and the carnage.
Naser Jason Abdo, a former U.S. soldier, was sentenced to life in prison last year after being convicted of planning to use a pair of bombs made from pressure cookers in an attack on a Texas restaurant frequented by soldiers from Fort Hood. He was found with the Inspire article.
Investigators in the Boston bombing also are combing surveillance tapes from businesses around the finish line and asking travelers at Logan Airport to share any photos or video that might help.
"This is probably one of the most photographed areas in the country yesterday," said Boston police Commissioner Edward Davis. He said two security sweeps of the marathon route had been conducted before the bombing.
Boston police and firefighter unions announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to arrests.

Military Chiefs Warns Politicians Says "We Are Running Out Of Patience, Clear The Mess Or Face Anarchy"

Military Chiefs

With an unusual grandstanding and harsh words, the Nigerian military today warned political office holders and civil servants that the nation’s armed forces are already running out of patience with the manner things are going in the country especially the unbridled looting of public funds and undue interference in the runnings of military operations.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika issued the threats separately today though in a manner that suggests that their decision to make the declaration was predetermined and coordinated. They both spoke in their offices in Abuja while receiving the new Permanent Secretary posted to the Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila.

The CDS who fired the first shot at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) categorically declared that the military was fast running out of patience with the “pile of mess” being created in the polity as reflected in the runnings of the Ministry of Defence.

“You find too many stories about grandstanding, stories about procurement. I hope your tour of duty will focus on these issues. I will close this my response by saying that you inherited a pile of work, let me call it work, some call it pile of mess. You have to clear it up”, the CDS warned while referring to the corruption rooted in the MOD.

Also speaking in the same tone, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika warned that the military have had enough from political office holders in the MOD interfering in their operational issues. He condemned the practice where civilians in the ministry preside over the procurement of military logistics and operations vehicles amongst others without the involvement of relevant service chiefs.

“Your appointment has come at a time we require a lot of improvement in defence affairs. Some of our operations are not taken into consideration in the making of the budget. For a nation that has experienced peace for so long, a lot of things are taken for granted”, the COAS stated, adding that at the moment the Nigerian Army lacks adequate operations vehicles, accommodation, arms and ammunitions amongst others because of bureaucratic bottlenecks.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary told Ihejirika that, “the mandate of the ministry of Defence is to provide services to you and I am here with a sincere heart to provide support to you. There is a challenge and by the responsibility I am carrying, I plead with you for support to carry this responsibility. I am coming at a time that there are great challenges, great expectations from you. Yes, there are challenges of friction between the ministry and you, but I assure you that this is a thing of the past.

“The Chief of Defence Staff talked about quality of staff. I have briefed all my Directors that there is a wind of change. It is no more business as usual. Whatever needs to be done must be done properly. I came with a name and I want to go back with that name and I will not allow anybody to deter my determination.”

While assuring the COAS that he has noted the areas the military officers want to be carried along which include “finance, procurement and other logistics areas” the new Perm. Sec. said “immediately after my meeting with you, I intend to hold meetings with Directors and set timeline for all we do. In areas of procurement, these are areas of your needs. You know what you want and who can do the best for you.

Anything that has to do with procurement, I will personally discuss it with you to give you what you want. There will be no more friction. Should you have any issues, please Sir, feel free to call me and discuss with me.”

Indian Man Shows Off His Swag In N34m GOLD Shirt! (Photo)

Phuge
An Indian businessman, Datta Phuge has paid £162,000 for a shirt made out of gold. The monster weighs in at 3kg (7 lbs), and could hardly be called understated.

Best part - Whenever Phuge wears his £162,000 gold shirt, he has to be accompanied by a security guard!!

Phuge, nicknamed 'the gold man',  has a passion for gold. And he also wears chunky necklaces, rings and bracelets of his favourite metal along with the shirt - which must hamper his ability to do just-about anything.
Traditionally in India wearing gold is a sign of wealth, so each time his property and money-lending company makes a profit Phuge buys himself some more gold.
He says a gold mobile phone and shoes are next on his wish list.

Disrupted Wedding Saga: Actor Solomon Akiyesi has another wife, Ezinne whom he married before Lilian and Uloma

Got these photos from Stella Dimoko Korkus blog. The reason I'm sharing these photos here is because there are people who are insinuating that I'm good friends with Lilian so I'm deliberately hiding the fact that Solomon was married to someone else before he married Lilian. I'd like to be open with my readers. I'm sure Lilian Akiyesi is a good woman, but we are not friends. I've never met her, we've only spoken on the phone...and this was just yesterday. Never heard of Solomon and Lilian Akiyesi before this scandal broke on Saturday. And it wasn't Lilian who alerted me, it was some other lady who knew what was about to go down at the church and wanted me to get the exclusive so she called that morning.

Having said that, I don't know what the facts are with this other wife, but according to SDK, Solomon
married Ezinne first (pictured above at their wedding). And without divorcing her, married Lilian, and without divorcing Lilian, wanted to marry another woman, Uloma Agwu. How sad for this man!

Three Feared Dead As Container Falls Off Truck

No fewer than three persons were feared dead, Tuesday, when a container fell off an articulated truck along Apapa/Oshodi expressway and landed on commuters waiting for buses at Otto-Wharf bus-stop, killing three of them. Others reportedly sustained injuries.

According to reports, the driver of the truck with number plate XG 616 UWN attempted to overtake a vehicle at the bus-stop, at about 2.30pm, and suddenly the empty container fell off, landing on unsuspecting commuters.
When Vanguard arrived the scene, a Federal Road Safety Corps official who identified himself simply as Chigbo said the truck driver was on high speed and could not control it when he got to the bus-stop.
The driver of a car and two other persons waiting to board buses to their respective destinations, according
to him, were affected, adding that the container was removed and the victims rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Kardashian Is Still Working Out In Gym... At Six Months' Pregnant

It seems that Kim Kardashian is trying to keep the pounds she gains while pregnant to a minimum.
The reality star was snapped leaving a gym yesterday, showing off her swelling physique in the process.
She wore trainers, tight jogging bottoms and a figure-hugging vest. Kim – who’s expecting a child with boyfriend Kanye West in July – kept her eyes hidden behind shades but wasn’t so coy about her cleavage.
Her latest workout follows a hospital dash last month after she fell ill on a flight from Paris to Los Angeles. The socialite’s health scare sparked fears she was overdoing it on the exercise front – and doctors reportedly advised her to cut down on trips to the gym. It’s claimed Kim is so worried about piling on weight, she’s planning to undergo a tummy tuck after giving birth to help get her back into shape.
Her aunt Joan recently revealed: “She can have a tummy tuck, which will take care of most of her weight fears.“The family's trying to convince Kim to relax and worry about losing the weight months from now.”

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Kim has been forced to admit that she spends more time away from rapper Kanye than she does with him. She made the confession in a deposition that forms part of her divorce from estranged hubby Kris Humphries, according to RadarOnline. A source told the website: “She blamed their hectic schedules, but it was obvious that it pained her a great deal. “Kim is pregnant with his baby, and Kanye is missing all of her prenatal appointments, because he is halfway around the world in Paris.“Kim and Kanye talk, text and Skype, but it’s not the same as having him physically with her.” Kim’s divorce trial with basketball ace Kris – who she was infamously married to for just 72 days – kicks off on May 6.
And Kris has reportedly slammed his ex’s tell-all interview with US presenter Ryan Seacrest – which is due to air on TV two weeks before the split pair face the judge.
The sports star apparently thinks it’s a desperate attempt on Kim’s part to limit the damage that their legal showdown will cause.
A source told RadarOnline: “Kris is very suspicious of the timing. “In Kris’ opinion, it’s definitely being done as damage control before testimony in the divorce trial, which is expected to reveal that aspects of Kim’s reality shows are staged. “Kim will be forced to testify under oath that scenes of the reality show, including a conversation she had with mum about the breakdown of her marriage to Kris, took place after she had filed for divorce.”

Protesters plan to pelt Late Margeret Thatcher’s coffin with eggs, coal or milk

Pallbearers carry the coffin of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher into the Palace of Westminster in London on Tuesday. (Reuters Photo)

LONDON, United Kingdom  (AFP) – London police are bracing for protests at Margaret Thatcher’s funeral on Wednesday, with opponents vowing to pelt her coffin with eggs, coal or milk if they can get close enough — or simply turn their backs on the passing procession.
More than 800 people have pledged to attend an event called “Maggie’s good riddance party”, promising a “right jolly knees-up” outside St Paul’s Cathedral — where 2,000 global political leaders, celebrities and friends will be paying their respects to the former British prime minister.
“Let the world know the hypocrisy of a state-funded funeral for the person who influenced 30 years of cuts to state funding of welfare,” the protest’s Facebook page reads.
“If taxpayers are funding her funeral… we can at least get our money’s worth.”
The former Conservative Party leader’s death has sparked furious debate in Britain over her legacy — and over the decision to grant her a state-funded ceremonial funeral, which by some estimates will cost the
taxpayer up to £10 million ($15 million, 12 million euros).
Her more radical critics, who accuse her of ruining millions of lives with her radical free-market reforms, greeted news of her death from a stroke last week with impromptu street parties.
Hundreds of people filled London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday, erected a giant effigy of her and shouted “Maggie, Maggie, Maggie! Dead, dead, dead!”
Scotland Yard has launched a massive security operation, fearing that protesters could attack the 1.9-kilometre (1.1 mile) route between parliament and St Paul’s. Her coffin will be carried on a horse-drawn gun carriage through streets lined with military personnel.
Police have repeatedly asked demonstrators to give them advance notice of their plans, warning that anyone causing “harassment, alarm or distress” could be arrested.
Some protesters have vowed to pelt the coffin with eggs, while others have hinted at hurling coal — a reminder of the bitter 1984-1985 miners’ strike which Thatcher crushed, leading to the closure of dozens of mines and tens of thousands of job losses.
“Please remember your coal to throw at the cortege, it’s what she would have wanted,” one Twitter user posted.
Former miners were among those celebrating Thatcher’s death at Trafalgar Square on Saturday — and pubs in areas where the mines were shut down, from Wales to northern England, are expected to do brisk trade on Wednesday.
In London, some protesters suggested they may try to throw milk at Thatcher’s coffin, a reference to her days as education minister when her decision to stop free milk for older school pupils earned her the nickname “Thatcher the milk snatcher”.
Westminster City Council has nine “flushing machines” and 40 staff on standby to clear the streets of milk if necessary, a spokeswoman said.
But many of Thatcher’s foes said that simply turning their backs as her coffin passes would send a more powerful message.
“If many people turn their backs it will be a deeply symbolic act,” said Becca Blum, an environmental activist who said she had police permission for a peaceful protest outside the Royal Courts of Justice.
“We will show the world that Britain is not all united in grief,” she wrote on her blog.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said an “appropriate” policing operation was in place for Wednesday.
She declined to say how many officers would be on the ground, adding that the force had been in contact with some protesters.
“We are hugely experienced in safely delivering high profile and ceremonial events in the capital,” said Commander Christine Jones, who is leading the operation.
It is yet another large-scale operation for the London force after the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011, last summer’s Olympic Games and Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
St Paul’s itself is no stranger to protests. Lying at the heart of London’s financial district, it was home to anti-capitalist “Occupy” protesters for more than four months until their camp was evicted in February 2012.
Shopkeepers along the funeral procession route have been told to remove signs from the pavement, as well as any ladders or tools that could potentially be used as weapons.
“We’re moderately concerned about it,” said Stuart Dove, manager of George Attenborough and Son jeweller’s on Fleet Street, near the cathedral.
“We might have to put our shutters down, depending on how big the crowd gets. It’s a bit annoying for business, but I think it’s important that London marks the occasion,” he told AFP.

Shocker!!! Newspaper Reports Death of ‘Our Daily Manna’ Publisher Rev. Dr Chris Kwakpowe

A prominent national daily newspaper, (Daily Champion) in Nigeria reported that the publisher of Our Daily Manna, Rev. Dr Chris Kwakpowe, was assassinated at his home by unknown gun men. His full name was printed in the controversial publication! Even the CORRECTIONAL VERSION RE-PUBLISHED, STILL CARRIED HIS FULL NAMES! This is so, especially with various enemy blogs and lies against him recently. Earlier on, it was uncovered that Dr. Chris received a text message threatening that he would be blackmailed on the internet if he fails to part with 250million Naira! He was also advised to get in touch and not inform the police. This is coupled with the burglary at their national headquarters and OVER 9 FAKE FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS IMPERSONATING HIM and defrauding innocent people!
He is said to be focused, but is quietly considering the next line of action and wondered who would want him dead!

Osaze Odemwingie’s Marriage In Trouble, Wife Faces Multiple Attacks From In-Laws?

Insiders just disclosed to societynowng that the marriage of Nigerian international footballer, Osaze Odemwingie is troubled.
The report claims that family members in concert with some friends are of the conviction that his ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on his career.
The West Brom Albion striker got married to his wife, Sarah Fallon on 26 May 2012- after two years of dating. Since then, he has embraced behaviour that transformed his blossoming career downhill.
He engaged authorities of the nation’s football governing body- Nigerian Football Federation and national team coach in a manner that attracted wide spread condemnation and got him sidelined.
The former Locomotiv Moscow star went on to engage club authorities in similar manner, to the extent of single handedly trying to switch to another club. The move earned him wide spread jeers and ridicule. It also forced him out of team play and reduced him to the status of ‘training material’
Information made available to societynowng revealed promoters of the campaign ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on him’ have totalled all the incidents and believe their is something about the matrimony making him to behave out of line.
They have however proffered a solution- Osaze should have a rethink about the union…or at least take a temporary break from the union.
Digs by societynowng revealed the pressure for Osaze to tow the ‘take a break path’ is intense, and troubling the marriage.
But the footballer remains unshaken in his commitment to his wife and marital vows.
Whether the couple will be able to withstand the family pressure or not in days to come remain to be seen.
Before he embraced downward spiral after his marriage – Odemwingie was a darling of football fans both in his country and at his club.

Man Who Was A Woman Marries Woman Who Was A Man

An engaged couple will become Britain's first double sex-change husband and wife when they get married later this year.

Helen Morfitt, 56, started life as Leslie, and is due to marry Felix Laws, 46, formerly Katy, in September.
Between them, the couple has already been married four times, and Helen has eight children and Felix two from their previous relationships.
They will officially change their gender on their birth certificates, allowing them to get married, with a date set for 13 September, the date both had their sex change operations, albeit seven years apart.
Helen told the Daily Mirror: "We've been through a lot over the years and had tough times transitioning from one sex to another, but we've now found each other and that's all that matters."I've been married three times before but this time I know it's for real because I know I'm the right sex this time."
Felix added: "We're just like any other couple - including in the bedroom. Neither of us has any complaints on that score."
The couple met in 2008, when Felix visited a doctor about the possibility of having a sex change operation. The doctor referred him to a transgender support group run by Helen.

"As a child my friends were playing with dolls and prams but I wanted to climb trees, play football and get muddy," said Felix.

"Even sitting down to go to the toilet felt wrong. But it was the 1970s and you didn't have those kind of thoughts back then."

He got married as Katy at 21 and soon had two children.

"After I exchanged vows with my husband and went up to our room I knew I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.

"Just because I was transgender didn't mean I didn't want what everyone else had - a loving family.

"When I held my children in my arms for the first time I felt like any other mother would about their baby."

After 13 years, Felix left the marriage and the children.

"I didn't have a choice. The urge to become a man was growing stronger.

"My husband was given custody of the children and it broke my heart but I couldn't keep playing happy families," he said.

Helen married three times as Leslie.

She said: "My wives had wanted children and I did too. In some ways I was trying to prove my masculinity, trying to deny who I really was - a woman in a man's body.

"I loved my wives, in fact I'm still friends with two of them. But I couldn't love them in the right way. I was trying to repress my real feelings and coped by cross dressing in secret."

Both said that one of the most difficult parts of the process was telling their families of their decision to change sex.

"I told my two youngest, who were only five and six, that I was very poorly and the only way I could get better was to become a girl. They accepted it easily," said Helen.

"The six-year-old said it would be a bit silly to call me Daddy and started calling me Helen.

"My two girls and four other boys came round to the idea slowly and I regularly see most of them now."

Felix recalls telling his 16-year-old son: "He asked me if I was a tomboy. He told me he'd watched documentaries about transpeople.

"He then asked me if that's the way I felt. I was gobsmacked that he was so intuitive. We've had an incredible relationship ever since."

For the Gretna Green ceremony, Felix will be swapping the flowing white dress of his first marriage for a kilt, and Helen will wear the black gothic dress she dreamt of when younger.

President Obama Is Being Accused Of Sexism

President Obama, seen here with Kamala Harris in February 2012
President Obama is being accused of sexism for publicly remarking on California Attorney General Kamala Harris’s good looks at a fundraiser in San Francisco on Thursday, though he was forced to call her and apologize later that night after his remarks sparked a firestorm and he was accused of being sexist.

The President said of the 48-year-old: ‘She’s brilliant and she’s dedicated, she’s tough…She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general,’ Obama said, adding, ‘It’s true! C’mon!’

According to a pool reporter who attended the event, Obama was doting on Harris, ‘noting a couple of times that she is, objectively, easy on the eyes.’
President Obama apologized for the distraction that his comments caused and his press secretary released a statement saying that the President ‘regretted’ the move.

Commentators both liberal and conservative immediately took to Twitter to blast his remarks as ‘unsettling,’ ‘disgraceful’ and ‘disrespectful.’

‘Obama’s comment about Kamala Harris is disgraceful and really terrible for workplace equality,’ wrote Jonathan Chait of New York Magazine.

Added Rebecca Traister, writer for The New York Times Magazine and Salon, ‘On What planet in [Obama's] mind did he think that sounded like the right thing to say?’

Obama’s supporters argue that the president and Harris, who is not married, are good friends and that it shouldn’t be considered a crime to compliment a women on her obvious good looks.

‘The fact that this has in some way become a story about his overall respect of women (or lack thereof) is a slap in the face to the first lady, the first daughters, and every other woman who appreciates a compliment that extends far beyond appearance from the president or any other man,’ Angela Rye, a Democratic political consultant, told Politico.

On Friday, press secretary Jay Carney made the first public reaction by the White House, saying: ‘He apologized for the remark. He certainly regretted the distraction. He believes that she is a superb AG.’

The President ‘did not want in any way to diminish the attorney general’s professional accomplishments and her capabilities.

‘He fully recognizes the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and that they should not be judged based on appearance,’ Mr Carney said.

Michelle Obama has not commented on the controversy , but she did have a slip-up of her own on Thursday in a TV interview where she accidentally called herself a ‘single mother.’

During an interview with Burlington, Vermont CBS affiliant WCAX, the first lady was discussing healthy foods and how the demands of raising a family can leave little time for nutritious cooking.

‘Believe me, as a busy single mother, Obama said, before quickly correcting herself, ‘Or I shouldn’t say single – as a busy mother.’

Explaining her slip-up, she added, ‘Sometimes, you know when you’ve got the husband who’s president it can feel a little single. But he’s there.’

Ms Harris is a Democratic favorite and a trailblazer in her home state.

Her mixed race descent – having been born of an Asian Indian mother who emigrated to the U.S. from Chennai and a Jamaican American father- made her the first female, African American and Asian American attorney general in the state.

On top of that, she is the first Indian American attorney general in the country.

Her career shows no sign of stopping, as she is regularly mentioned when pundits speculate about possible Supreme Court nominees should a new judge be appointed during President Obama’s second term.

Another possible track for her is the gubernatorial one, as attorney general is a common springboard position for those hoping to climb the local ladder.

Little is known about her current romantic situation, except that she was in a serious relationship with the former mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown.

The two were a serious item and dated when he was the Speaker of the California State Assembly, but they reportedly broke up in 1998.

There are no pictures of President Obama and Ms Harris together at Thursday’s event, which was a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee held at the home of John Goldman, the heir to the Levi Strauss fortune.
